With the 787B, Mazda was not only the first Japanese car manufacturer to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991. It was also the first and only victory for a vehicle with a Wankel engine.

When it mattered, it was the reliability of the Wankel engine that tipped the scales, making up for the lack of speed that characterized the mighty competition from Jaguar and Mercedes.
The unique conditions that made the surprise victory possible, as well as its high-revving engine sound, reminiscent of Formula 1 and thrilling the crowd, immediately gave the 787B racing legend status.
The orange and green pattern inspired by the racing paintwork looks pretty cool on a pair of socks. Even if some people will first google the term "Wankel engine" to understand what all the fuss is about.
